New EU product identifiers on Shopify Shipping and Managed Markets labels

Roipas Editorial Team

From November 1, 2026, three product identifiers will be required for each item in direct-to-consumer EU parcels valued under €150. Shopify will use your product data to add the identifiers to customs documents.

Shopify now supports the new product identifiers on labels purchased through Shopify Shipping or Managed Markets for EU-bound orders. The requirement applies from November 1, 2026, to direct-to-consumer parcels valued under €150.

Why the product identifiers matter

From that date, each item covered by the requirement needs three product identifiers. Parcels with missing information may be rejected at customs and incur return-to-origin fees.

What to add to your Shopify products

No action is needed for the Merchant Product Identifier (M-PID): your Shopify product variant already covers it. For the Standardized Product Identifier (S-PID), add a barcode of type GTIN, EAN, UPC, or ISBN. If the product has none of these, declare this on the product details page.

For the Non-Standardized Manufacturer Product Identifier (NS-PID), add the manufacturer's model number, part number, or style code as a barcode of type NS-PID. You can also use your own product code or SKU.

Label purchase requirements

Shopify uses your product data to add the identifiers to customs documents. Labels for EU-bound orders cannot be purchased for items missing any required identifier.

Add the product identifiers to the relevant items in Shopify so the required information can be used when labels and customs documents are prepared.
