Run stock counts directly in Shopify POS

Roipas Editorial Team

Shopify POS users can record cycle or full stock counts at a store location. Counts are reviewed in Shopify Admin, where approved counts can be applied as inventory adjustments.

Shopify POS lets store staff complete stock counts on the sales floor. Planning, review, and approval remain in Shopify Admin.

Create and schedule counts in Shopify Admin

Users with the required permissions can create and schedule a stock count in Shopify Admin, then select its location and the products to include. The count appears in Products > Stock counts in Shopify POS at the selected location.

Record quantities in POS and review them in Admin

Staff with inventory permission can open the count in POS and record what is on hand by scanning barcodes or entering quantities manually. Completed counts are submitted for review in Shopify Admin; submitting a count does not immediately change inventory quantities.

Users with the required permissions can review the count and discrepancies, then approve it to apply the resulting inventory adjustments. Shopify also records what was counted, when the count was completed, and who performed it.

Requirements

Running stock counts in Shopify POS requires POS Pro and Shopify POS v11.16 or later.

Recording counts in POS and reviewing and approving them in Shopify Admin keeps the count and inventory adjustment steps separate.
