Shopify adds Sidekick and touch controls to the mobile store editor

Roipas Editorial Team

Shopify’s mobile Online Store Editor has been updated to keep the store canvas visible during edits. The update also includes touch controls, Sidekick integration, and a new layer map.

An update to Shopify’s mobile Online Store Editor keeps the store canvas visible while you make changes. The rebuilt editor also adds controls designed for iOS and Android and brings Sidekick into the editing experience.

Keep the store canvas visible while editing

Settings open in a compact sheet that does not cover the store canvas. Tap a section or block directly on the canvas to open its settings and see your changes as you make them.

Touch controls and a layer map

Controls and input fields have been redesigned for finger use, with larger targets and clearer states. The design is consistent across iOS and Android. A new layer map helps you find sections, blocks, theme settings, and app embeds in the store structure without scrolling the canvas.

Sidekick is integrated into the editor

You can ask Sidekick a question or request a store edit from anywhere in the editor. When you select a specific section or block, a contextual Sidekick input appears with awareness of what you are viewing.

The update brings the canvas, touch controls, a layer map, and Sidekick features together in Shopify’s mobile store editor.
