Shopify inventory reports will show on-hand quantity
Starting October 1, 2026, Shopify inventory analytics will use the total physical stock at a location instead of available quantity. Historical data will remain unchanged.
Shopify is updating the inventory measure used by its analytics models. The change affects how quantities in reports correspond to stock physically held at each location.
On-hand quantity vs. available quantity
Starting October 1, 2026, the models will show on-hand quantity rather than available quantity. On-hand quantity includes all units physically at a location, including units committed to open orders and units currently unavailable.
Available quantity includes only units that are available to sell.
Which reports are affected?
Reports using these models may show higher inventory by the number of committed and unavailable units. Affected reports include products by sell-through rate, days of inventory remaining, inventory adjustment changes, inventory sold daily by product, ABC product analysis, month-end inventory value, inventory transfer orders and shipments, and the month-end inventory snapshot.
In ShopifyQL, the change can be seen in queries using “FROM inventory” or “FROM inventory_by_location”.
Historical data will not change
Reports for dates before October 1, 2026, will continue to show available quantity. Historical numbers and trends will remain as they are.
In short, from October 1, 2026, the specified Shopify inventory reports will use total on-hand stock, while historical reporting will stay unchanged.
