Shopify return window overrides are now available

Roipas Editorial Team

Shopify now lets you set return window overrides by market for collections, products, or variants. If multiple overrides match, the shortest return window applies.

Shopify has added market-specific return window overrides to its return and cancellation rules. You can set a return period for specific collections, products, or variants that differs from the default window.

How return window overrides work

When an item matches an override, that return window replaces the default or market-specific window. If more than one override matches, the shortest return window applies.

Items marked as final sale cannot be returned or cancelled, even if they match an override. For items that are not final sale and do not match an override, the market-specific window applies; if none is set, the default window applies.

Where to set an override

Go to Settings > Policies > Return and cancellation rules, then select the market rules you want to modify. You can choose a collection, product, or variant for the return window override.

Set different windows for different items

For example, you can set a 14-day return window for seasonal items instead of your standard 90-day window.

The feature lets Shopify stores define return windows by market and by selected collections, products, or variants. The rules account for matching overrides, the shortest applicable window, and final-sale status.
